Educational family holidays – learning that goes beyond school

Curiosity does not switch off when school ends, and it certainly does not pause for holidays. In fact, travel can open up some of the most meaningful learning opportunities of all.

International Day of Education is a moment to recognise the role education plays in shaping children’s lives – not only in school, but through the experiences that support their growth every day.

When children explore new places, cultures and environments, learning becomes hands-on and instinctive. They ask questions. They test ideas. They build confidence, independence and empathy. On holiday, education often feels more natural and instinctive, yet its impact can be lasting – supporting social skills, creativity, problem-solving and a deeper understanding of the world.

Across our Luxury Childcare Association destinations, education is thoughtfully woven into the everyday. These are not classroom lessons recreated poolside. They are carefully designed experiences that children can take part in, sparking interest, nurturing curiosity and supporting development – all while children feel relaxed, engaged and joyful.

Below, we share a selection of examples from our members, showing how learning comes to life through play, exploration and discovery.

Mar-Bella Collection, Greece

At MarBella and Elix by Mar-Bella Collection, education often begins outdoors. Children can take part in nature-led experiences that connect them with their surroundings, whether through garden discovery sessions, creative play inspired by wildlife, or simple environmental learning woven into daily experiences. These moments support early science skills, sensory awareness and an appreciation for nature, while allowing children to learn at their own pace.

Lha Velaa Private Island, Maldives

Learning at Lha Velaa often takes place by the water. Children can take part in culinary workshops that introduce them to basic food preparation, teamwork and creativity, while also supporting confidence and fine motor skills. The newly designed, powered by human-touch Adventure Playzone at Velaa playfully teaches sustainability and connection while nurturing cognitive, physical, and social development. Guided by trained childcare professionals, children experiment, taste and create – discovering new skills in a calm, supportive environment.

Ravenala Attitude, Mauritius

At Ravenala Attitude, learning is gently woven into a wider programme of creative and cultural experiences. One example is the Little Marine Discovery Centre, where children can take part in interactive games and workshops that introduce them to the marine environment, including a focus on sea turtles found in the surrounding waters. Alongside other creative and exploratory experiences, these moments encourage curiosity, imagination and environmental awareness in a relaxed, age-appropriate way.

Les Bordes Estate, France

At Les Bordes Estate, children can take part in outdoor experiences at La Ferme, a dedicated space designed for exploration, movement and connection with nature. With trained teams on hand to support and supervise, children are free to choose how they spend their time – whether that’s climbing and sliding in the playpark, meeting and feeding animals at the petting farm, or enjoying ball games on the courts and pitches. These open-ended moments encourage confidence, curiosity and physical development, while allowing children to follow their own interests in a safe, thoughtfully designed environment.

Atlantis The Palm, Dubai

At Atlantis The Palm, learning is woven into a wide-ranging kids’ club programme designed to spark curiosity across many interests, with opportunities such as spending time behind the scenes with specialist teams at the resort’s marine facilities. Through guided encounters, they are introduced to sharks, dolphins and other marine animals, learning how they are cared for through observation and conversation.

Supporting children’s development, naturally

At the Luxury Childcare Association, we believe education is not a separate activity – it is part of a well-designed family holiday. When learning is delivered with care, expertise and imagination, it becomes something children look forward to.

For parents, this means peace of mind. For children, it means discovering new interests, building confidence and returning home with more than memories alone.

Because learning does not stop when school ends – it continues through travel, exploration and shared family experiences.
