Olea Kids Club Opens at Gennadi Grand Resort, Rhodes

Most parents know the feeling: you arrive somewhere new, bags still in the hallway, and your child needs one calm, familiar thing to hold onto before the holiday can really begin. At Gennadi Grand Resort, part of Lindos Hotels’ collection on the Greek island of Rhodes, that moment now has a new setting: Olea Kids Club.

Officially opened this season, the new club gives young guests a place to make friends, grow in confidence and enjoy the kind of experiences they’ll talk about long after the flight home. For parents, it means precious time to relax, knowing their children are somewhere they genuinely want to be.

Developed with childcare specialists Worldwide Kids, the concept is rooted, quite literally, in the story of the resort itself. Designed not simply around toys and activities, but around a tree, Olea Kids Club takes its inspiration from the olive tree and the sense of place it represents on Rhodes.

Roots That Run Deep

Gennadi Grand is one of two sister hotels on Rhodes belonging to Lindos Hotels (the other, Lindos Imperial, has its own version of the club down the coast). The brief here wasn’t to fill a room with toys, it was to design a feeling: Our Family Tree, rooted in the olive trees that have grown across the grounds for generations. An olive tree grows slowly, its roots spread wide, and its branches shelter everything beneath them for years. That’s the presence the designers wanted the club to have in a child’s holiday, steady and quietly there for them, all week long.

The name Olea is a nod to the olive tree itself, and a personal tribute to the Minnetos family, who own the resort. The olive trees at its heart are more than a hundred years old, planted by the family’s grandfather and later relocated from the village to the resort, a story of heritage the designers felt was too meaningful not to build the whole club around.

The club’s colour palette comes straight from the landscape outside its windows, olive groves, sun-bleached stone, warm sand, sea and sky. Against that shared foundation, Olea Kids Club at Gennadi Grand takes its own accent colour: purple, linked to creativity, playfulness and calm.

The Family Tree

Every material choice here was filtered through one question: what does this do for a child’s nervous system, not just their eyes? That’s why the palette leans into calming, muted greens and warm neutrals rather than primary-colour chaos. Soft textures, real plant walls, timber and cork lower the visual noise in the room, which matters for a child arriving somewhere new, often overstimulated after a day of travel.

The whole experience is built around three simple pillars:

The centrepiece of the room is the Family Tree interactive wall. The tree in the protected upper panel is the real family tree of the Minnetos family, the roots the whole resort is built on, and its branches continue down the wall so children can draw themselves and their new friends directly beneath it. Within a day, the wall is visibly theirs, filled with the week’s new friendships growing out of the family’s own roots.

A Week Built Around Them

The activity programme follows the same spirit: a Navigation Day with maps, compasses and the night sky, craft workshops using traditional regional skills, den-building with natural materials, a family games night, and a walk-through kitchen garden where children pick their own toppings for that evening’s meal alongside the hotel’s chefs.
